They may be specified (manufacture, style and color) by the team/organization for uniformity. Football players must purchase cleats and a sports cup. We recommend molded rubber cleats, which can be purchased at most sporting goods stores.

A. Practices begin on Tuesday, August 1, 2006. Our regular season games will generally begin the last Saturday in August or the first Saturday in September depending on how the calendar falls.

Q. When/where do you practice?
A. For the first 2 weeks, all teams will generally practice Monday through Friday from 6 to 8 PM. Football teams will practice at (locations TBA). Cheer Squads will practice at (locations TBA). After the first 2 weeks, practices will generally be held as follows: Cheer and Football - Monday, Tuesday, Thursday from 6:00-8:00 PM The younger teams of Tiny Mite and Mitey Mite might only practice two of the three nights. Consistency is the key.

Occasionally, practice days may change. Attendance at practice is required and only a limited number of excused absences will be granted.

Q. How long does the season last?
A. Our regular season ends in late October. All football players and cheerleaders on the Jr. PeeWee, PeeWee, Jr. Midget, and Midget teams are eligible for post-season play and competition. League and Regional Play-offs will be held throughout the month of November. Regional Championships will always be held on Thanksgiving weekend. Travel is expected to be light, Raleigh or Charlotte area depending on the year, however there is always the chance of further travel in any given year. The Pop Warner National Cheer and Dance Championships and the Pop Warner Super Bowl will be held the first week of December at Disney's Wide World of Sports in Orlando, FL. All Steelers participants (parents and players) should anticipate and commit to practice and competition through the National Championships and Super bowl. The Steelers have a strong tradition of teams advancing to the Regional Championships and, over the past decade, we have sent many cheer and football teams to the National Championships and Super bowl.

Q. When do cheerleaders compete?
A. The CFF Cheer Competition generally will be held on a Sunday, mid-October for all squads but Tiny Mite and Mitey Mite. The top teams will advance to the Regional Championships. Team Check-in may be required on Thanksgiving Day! Winning teams will travel to the National Championships in Walt Disney World, Florida to compete in early-December. Tiny Mite and Mitey Mite cheer will perform in an Exhibition highlighting newly learned skills and spirit in September.

Q. Are there other expected expenses?
A. For teams advancing to post-season play, there will be additional travel expenses that families will ultimately be responsible for (hotel, meals, and transportation). For teams advancing to the National Championships, the cost is about $500 per participant. The Steelers hold fundraising events throughout the year to offset operating expenses and keep our registration fees down. When we have teams advancing to regional and National competition, our fundraising becomes targeted to offset the travel costs. In the past, we have been successful in raising money to offset about 90% of the cost of travel to Regionals and Disney. We ask that all of our Steeler families participate enthusiastically in all our fundraising activities. Contact the Steelers Booster Club through the web site if you wish to help us with our year-round fundraising. ** Remember, money made by fundraising reduces National travel expenses for Steelers.

Q. How can I support the Steelers now?
A. Become a member of the Booster Club. This is for parents, grandparents, aunts/uncles, businesses, anyone! For more details, click here. Support Steeler fundraisers throughout the season. Our Jog-a-thon, one of our biggest fundraisers, will be held in August. Our Booster Club is busy planning other fundraisers also. By supporting the Steelers generously now, we can minimize post-season travel costs and continue the Steelers STEELER STRONG.

A. Steelers home games will be played at Carroll Middle School. Away games will be held at other Consolidated Football Federation (CFF) fields in Apex, Cary, Cleveland, Durham, Garner, Raleigh, Sanford, and Wake Forest.
