About Capital City Steelers

The Capital City Youth Sports Association (CCYSA) was founded in 1994. CCYSA is an all-volunteer 501c-3 non-profit organization serving boys and girls from ages 5 to 15 from all around the Wake County area.

Every year, CCYSA supports over 300 youth football players and cheerleaders. Over the past decade, CCYSA has accumulated many football and cheerleading titles including two National Football titles. More importantly, many of our teams have been the recipients of Mid-South Regional Academic Excellence Awards, and we have placed boys and girls on the National Pop Warner AU Academic Team for many seasons.

CCYSA, a volunteer organized and operated non-profit organization, depends upon volunteers, parents and participants to raise funds on an annual basis to offset the cost of insurance, equipment, and field costs as well as funding scholarships for underprivleged children.

Each team depends on their parent volunteers for a variety of tasks including:

Coaching Assistant Coaching
Team Parent responsibilities Refreshments for team on game day
Stats Concessions
Gate attendance Chains
Spotter Announcer

As you can imagine, with an all-volunteer organization, parent participation is essential.

This is most assuredly a family venture!

About Pop Warner

Pop Warner, now celebrating more than 70 years, is the only National Youth Football and Cheerleading Program in the United States. More than 300,000 kids, 35,000 coaches, and 750,000 plus parents and friends are a part of Pop Warner. It is estimated that more than 3+ million volunteers and supporters nationwide follow Pop Warner.

Pop Warner participants range in age from five to fifteen, with the majority in the eight to thirteen age range. Flag and tackle football, cheerleading, and dance programs can be found in thirty-eight states and in Mexico, Russia, and Japan.

Pop Warner is the only national youth sports organization that emphasizes academic excellence. Athletes must demonstrate satisfactory classroom progress each year before they are allowed to compete.

Keeping the program safe and fun for all participants is among Pop Warner's highest priorities. Pop Warner provides the only national youth football program rulebook, to assure consistency and safety.
